B.Y.B.S.

Like many people during the pandemic, I developed some bad habits…a little too much of this and a little too little of that.

For a while, I was trying to willpower my way into better habits. Then I tried to bully myself and finally I reverted to shaming myself which is never a good thing.

Then I had an idea…B.Y.B.S.

My strategy was mindfulness so I set an hourly reminder on my iPhone. I didn’t want to put something shmarmy on there in case someone saw it so I opted for this acronym which simply means. BE YOUR BEST SELF.

I had no idea the wonderful chain reaction I would unleash. While my intention was initially focused on exercising more, eating healthy and drinking less, every time I see this notice pop up, I think of all the other ways once can be a better person. It’s led to things to read, good deeds that can be done and all kinds of other things.

My intention was so very simple. The results however were nuanced and complex.
