After six years, I was finally ready to get another dog. Working from home for months on end seemed like the perfect time to do it so I started looking at the rescue networks but (good news / bad news) there were no dogs! I always prefer rescuing but with no dogs in sight, I applied to a couple of breeders.
Lo and behold, a day or so before my birthday, one of the breeders let me know that there was a 15 month old Vizsla named Cooper in La Center, WA who needed to be re-homed. He was part of a loving family but unfortunately, their St Bernard wasn’t a fan. So on my birthday, Cooper came home to Seattle with me!
I was anxious. Cooper was anxious. Being a country dog, he isn’t used to the scary sounds of the “big city” and wow is the city noisy when you see it through his eyes (or perhaps ears). On one walk, we encountered an obese lady in an electric wheelchair with (I kid you not) a clown horn. On the same walk, THREE firetrucks screamed by us and then we encountered a City employee spray painting the sidewalk.
Cooper’s been a champ though. Still a little skittish but so much braver than even three days ago. And so eager to learn (something I love about vizslas). I can’t wait to improve his recall so we can hit MaryMoor dog park!
So I’ll try not to spam you with “all Cooper all the time” but I’m guessing he’ll be featuring rather prominently in my various channels!
