Visibility (a work in progress)

My niece Hannah is 20 years old and is studying dance at SUNY Purchase in New York. Recently she was asked to create a ‘zine on relevant societal issues and she chose to focus on the LGBTQ community.

Hannah wanted to include some personal perspective so she asked me to contribute and, after some discussion, we came up with the idea of creating a multilayered timeline highlighting the various ages and stages, milestones and moods of my life.

I reflected on the brief and sent her some notes, bits and pieces really, and she worked her magic (I don’t know where she got all the pictures of me with hair). I couldn’t spend as much time as I wanted on it but Hannah is good.

The result of Hannah’s hard work is exquisite…her ‘Zine, entitled “Visibility,” is so well written, covering very relevant, timely topics. It’s also beautifully illustrated and appropriately witty.

I loved the results so much, I’ve been inspired to go deeper, further reflecting on the highs and lows, the accomplishments and challenges I’ve experienced throughout my life to date.

(If I’m lucky, maybe I can convince Hannah to act as my editor and illustrator.)

With Hannah’s permission, you can click on the cover image below to download the full ‘Zine.
