If you saw this creature as you were walking along the road in New Brunswick, what would you think it was? I’ll give you a hint – it has a tail like a rat and its body looks like that of a rat as well. Its just so frikkin huge.

Naturally, my thought was, “Holy crap…its a WOMBAT!”

When I got back to the house, I looked it up and apparently it was no such thing. And its not a BEAVER either because of the tail. Turns out its a muskrat.

I learned from wikipedia (and the extremely helpful diagram below) that the muskrat is the only species in the genus Ondatra and is described as a medium-size semi-aquatic rodent. Yes rodent.
